Prologue

There comes a time in every young man’s life when he needs to step out of his father’s shadow.  After turning 18 and graduating high school, Malachai Draiman was facing that time.  He’d been working his ass off trying to get his own band off the ground only to be thwarted at every turn.  First, the guitarist flakes out on him.  Then, the drummer catches mono.  Finally, their bassist commits suicide.  Ironically, the girl’s name was Devon.  He constantly asked himself why everything he did seemed like it was a Disturbed song.  Why was it that his father could relate to everything that every person on the planet it seemed and what they were going through?  And, though his father, Disturbed vocalist David Draiman, was supportive and did what he could to help, he knew that there was no way his son was going to get anywhere unless he could awaken to his potential and believe in himself as much as he believed in the young man he’d raised since he was five.
